I was born in 1968 and grew up in a little town called
Schorndorf near Stuttgart in Germany. I had quite a happy
childhood. I was known as being naughty in school and probably spent
more time outside classrooms than inside, because some teachers couldn't
handle me. Well, my parents brought me up to stand up for what I
believe in and if I didn't agree with something I made sure that my
opinion was heard. Nevertheless I managed to get a good education,
because I was always there when it counted.
I got into music at an early age. My parents always played music and I guess an older sister helped, too. When I was 8 I discovered the flute and had lessons for 3 years. I started going out clubbing when I was 12 to a local club called "Point", which was one of the biggest clubs in Germany at that time. The admission age was actually 16, but I managed to get in and became quite a regular visitor. The music played there in the early 80s was mainly British and I really liked stuff from Haysi Fantayzee, Culture Club, Depeche Mode, Yazoo, etc., but that was only for fun. The real artists which made a mark where people like Kraftwerk, Jean Michelle Jarre, Kitaro and Tomita. Listening to the adaptation of Mussorgskys' Pictures At An Exhibition by Tomita was a real turning point in my life. My friends didn't understand my obsession with electronic music and thought I had a very strange taste and treated me a little bit like an outcast. Well, that's the price you pay if you don't swim along with popular culture. But I knew my time would come and it did. In the mid 80s we approached the dawn of House Music and I was really lucky that I was just the right age to enjoy it in full. After school I did an apprenticeship at the Inland Revenue Office in Stuttgart which took two years. But after the exams I thought about the outlook of working for the government for the rest of my life and I said - no way! - and left to start studying Graphic Design at a private art school in Stuttgart. After three years studying I had my exams to enter my final year which I failed, because my designs didn't fit the schools line. It was my love for the work of Neville Brody, Face Magazine, ID-Magazine and the likes which was seen as unacceptable at my school and therefore I was thrown out of this school after an argument with my headmaster after the exams. During these years I kept on going out clubbing in Germany, France, Holland and the United Kingdom. I was constantly on the road when I wasn't in school or working. I met lots of people everywhere, some of them have become quite famous since then, and had great fun. I was dressing up in mad clothes with my friends and I had a little Citroen 2CV, which took me everywhere. My favourite time was in 1987/88 during the Acid
period. I went to lots of great parties. In 1989 I worked in a
Club in Stuttgart called OZ as a Light Jockey on weekends for a few
months, but I got bored with it, I rather was spending that time with my
friends on the dance floor. I even worked as a DJ in 1990 in a bar called
"Seekneiple" in Stuttgart for a while, but I was dreadful. I just
simply couldn't mix with the decks, but people really liked my
style. I played my favourite records from the 70s and 80s. And with
all my mixing faults and the funny records I played I made people
laugh. I just love seeing people having fun, that's what life's all
about.
After I had left art school - not knowing what to do - I
packed my bags and I moved over here to London to try my luck in 1991. I
have always loved London and English was the only foreign language I could
speak a bit. In a way that was very bad timing because England was
in a deep recession and it was impossible to get a job. Well, for the
first two years I have been here I just travelled around and abroad and,
of course, became part of the club scene here. Then, running slowly out of money and steam, I entered the world employers and employees again and started to do voluntary office work for a few months. I discovered that being bilingual is actually a real advantage here and managed to get some paid work in telesales. After numerous other jobs I have finally found a company I like working for and was paying me a decent wage I could live on. London is terribly expensive to live in. About 12 years ago I got my first proper PC and started to get into building computers. And then I discovered the Internet about 10 years ago and a whole new world started to open up in front of me. I upgraded my PC to make it capable to handle sound in 1997 and I started experimenting with making my own music. I own a lot of CDs/records and I thought I should try to make the music I like. It wasn't until early 1998 until I managed to actually finish a track that you could listen to. That is my track "Science". Since then I tried to put more and more tracks together, which I've uploaded to a number of MP3 sites to get maximum exposure. It's nice that there are actually people who download my stuff and seem to enjoy what I make. It's just a little bit of fun. Apart from making music, I love working on my website, wearing trendy clothes, going out clubbing, travelling the world and spending money. I hope you enjoyed my little story of my life a little bit. |
